There is power in letting go
As I was scrolling down facebook on wednesday morning I noticed a post on my timeline from Joubeger asking South Africans what we leaving behind in 2017. As much as the comments were very entertaining, it got me thinking about the things I plan on letting go of.
Rather than spending time focusing on what I did or didn’t do, I've decided to put all of my energy into what is going well at this present moment and focus on how to make everyday beautiful. For me, next year will be beautifully different. Instead of analyzing my failures or putting myself down, I'm choosing to embrace exactly where I am. I am celebrating every moment as it comes, right now, and learn to accept it as it is.
Looking back I realise I didn't do anything ‘wrong’ this year or even the past years. Things have been perfectly imperfect and just what I needed. I learned exactly what I needed to which has helped me reach this new place with new options that will assist me with regards to starting another beautifully flawed year.
Caroline Myss coined the following:
When you learn to let go, you free yourself from the trap; you empower yourself with the ability to move your life in the direction you want it to go. And this is not just about whatever happened in the past; It's about letting go of some pre-conditioned idea you have of what should be rather than what is.
And so it is, I’m letting it go. I will not beat myself up for anything I didn't accomplish this year. I simply choose to forgive myself and move right along.
